Project Child Find

The Lumberton Township School District, in accordance with Project Child Find, provides free programs and services for children ages 3 through grade 8 who have a disability or developmental delay and may require special education and related services. The district works collaboratively with parents/guardians to identify children who may have learning needs in the areas of cognition, communication, social/emotional development, or motor functioning. This includes preschool children ages 3–5, school-age students in kindergarten through grade 8, highly mobile students such as migrant and homeless students, and students who may have a disability even though they are progressing from grade to grade.

A referral for a special education evaluation may be made by a parent/guardian, school staff, or an agency involved in the welfare of a child. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact their child's teacher or principal if they have concerns; however, a referral may also be made directly to the Child Study Team without prior notification to the school. If you have concerns regarding your child's speech or language development only, please contact the speech-language specialist at your child's school.

When appropriate, the Child Study Team will work collaboratively with the family to determine whether an evaluation is warranted. Students who are determined eligible for special education and related services are entitled to a free and appropriate public education.

Parents of school-aged children with disabilities who are enrolled by their parents in a private school should contact the Educational Services Commission regarding an evaluation. If a student is determined eligible for special education and related services, the student may be eligible to receive services through the Lumberton Township School District. Children from birth through age 3 who have developmental delays or disabilities may be eligible for early intervention services through the New Jersey Early Intervention System (NJEIS). Parents/guardians may make a direct referral by calling 1-888-653-4463.
