A Board of Education in the State of New Jersey is a governing body responsible for establishing policies, overseeing the operation of a public school district, and ensuring that students receive a thorough and efficient education in accordance with state law and regulations. Comprised of elected or appointed community members, the Board works collaboratively with the Superintendent of Schools to set the district’s vision and goals, adopt the annual budget, approve curriculum, and make decisions related to personnel, facilities, finance, and student achievement. While the Board establishes policy and provides oversight, the Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day administration and implementation of Board policies and district operations. Together, the Board of Education and Superintendent serve to support educational excellence, fiscal responsibility, and the overall well-being of students and staff.
